Das Projekt "Visitors information on transport and location" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von PTV Planung Transport Verkehr AG durchgeführt. Objective: Inner city areas suffer today considerably from problems related to traffic. These involve productivity losses due to traffic jams and environmental problems. At the same time, mobility of tourists, day trippers, businessmen and other visitors is increasing and the need for detailed and specific information on accommodation, locations and efficient mobility related with time and costs, urge the tourist market to search for intelligent solutions. Within the project an application will be developed in which a user is able to search and select locations inside the city he is in or he is going to visit. The product will supply him with graphical information about the geographic positions and how to reach the locations using alternative modes of transport. This objective will be achieved by integrating GIS-functionalities. General Information: The application will be based on a digital network which integrates road, public transport (rail, bus, ship) and foot walk networks. This is overlaid with the points of interests. Public transport timetables are included for time-dependent routing advice. The service information system will be developed for two different user groups: - VITAL TERMINALS will be located on typical sights where vast amount of traffic can be expected. - For professional users the VITAL SOFTWARE will be available in standard PC environments to be installed in hotels, travel information centres and other service areas. The VITAL project will provide an emerging standard for easy application in each major city. Therefore all data import will rely on GDF 2.1 exchange format or extensions to GDF to be defined and proposed. At the end of the implementation phase VITAL will be available for at least three cities of major tourist and business interest.
