Mercury contents of selected marine manganese nodules

Manganese nodules were selected from various areas of the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic ocean. They were analysed using a mercury vapour discharge technique. The minimum precision of the technique as determined by multiple analyses of individual samples was +- 12 per cent of the amount present.

Strontium isotope data for manganese nodules, crusts and sediments from the ocean

Ocean clay samples associated with ferromanganese nodules and crusts have been analysed for their 143Nd/144Nd isotopes ratio. Sr was separated for isotopic analysis using conventional cation-exchange techniques with a total blank of 1-2 x 10minus-10 g Sr. For those samples leached with acetic acid (HOAC), Sr isotope data are reported for both leachates and residues when appropriate and as bulk sample analyses otherwise. Sr isotope analyses were made on the a Vacuum Generators Micromass 30 mass spectrometer using a single Ta-filament technique.

Chemical concentration of metal and rare reath elements (REE) in manganese nodules and crusts

Manganese nodules and crusts samples analyzed in this work were chosen to represent a range of marine environments both oceanic and epicontinental. They were analysed by atomic-absorption spectrometry and optical-emission spectrometry to display a range of chemical compositions.
