Das Projekt "Multivariate classification, biogeography and phylogeographical analysis of Pannonian steppe grasslands" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Universität für Bodenkultur Wien, Institut für Integrative Naturschutzforschung durchgeführt. Steppe grasslands of the Pannonian region represent habitats for numerous rare and endangered animal and plant species. Therefore, this region covers high levels of biodiversity. In a vegetation history perspective, steppes have been dominant throughout most of the Quaternary in vast areas of Europe. However, constancy of steppe communities over time remains a matter of research.
